Small animal bones found at former home of Erica Parsons

Bones found at the former home of missing Rowan County teen Erica Parsons have been confirmed as a small animal, possibly a dog.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office sent the bones to NC State Medical Examiner's Office after the new owners of the property found bones while doing yard work. The bones were discovered just before noon Monday in the 200 block of Miller Chapel Road in Salisbury.

Parsons hasn't been seen since 2011 but it wasn't until July 2013 that her disappearance was reported.

Erica's adoptive parents are both behind bars after they were convicted of fraud charges. Casey and Sandy Parsons were receiving government money and assistance for Erica while she was no longer with them.

There is no word yet on how long the testing may take.

We will continue to update this developing story.
