Snow flurries possible in the Charlotte-area Monday morning

Yep, there's a chance for snow Sunday night into Monday morning.

FOX 46 Charlotte's Meteorologist Nick Kosir said a system will swing in and start as rain on Sunday but the real fun begins overnight into Monday morning as temperatures will drop below freezing.

One weather model shows snow arriving in the mountains, falling as far south as northern Mecklenburg County while others show much less of a chance for snow in the Piedmont.

The NAM and GFS weather models both show around 2-4" of snow in the mountains with some wet flakes possibly showing up along the I-40 corridor Monday morning.

Areas like Statesville, Hickory, Newton, and Morganton might see those flakes.

Today: Sunny and cool with highs in the 50s. Some snow showers will show up in the mountains tonight and linger into tomorrow morning. 1-2” are possible in the highest mountain tops.

Tomorrow: Starts cloudy with mild temps topping out in the 60s. Some light rain showers will move in late Saturday.

Sunday: Rain showers all day with rainfall totals between .5” to 1.” Highs will only reach the upper 40s thanks to all the rain and cloud coverage.

Sunday night into Monday morning the rain will likely switch over to snow in the mountains. Some models have even hinted towards some snow flying around across the piedmont – however models have backed off considerably on those possibilities since yesterday.

It all depends on the track the storm system takes. If it stay further south there is a better chance we could see snow in the piedmont. If it tracks further north we’d likely see more rain and possibly some severe weather as well.

The rest of next week looks sunny with highs consistently in the 50s.
