North Carolina National Guard Soldiers took the time to make one girl's 13th birthday special days after Hurricane Matthew damaged their city.

The National Guard said they met the Scott family while patrolling the City of Lumberton earlier in the week while supporting local law enforcement with recovery efforts.

Soldiers learned that the family's daughter had her birthday right after the historic floods in the area began. Soldiers were able, with the help of local merchants, the USO of NC and North Carolina Civil Air Patrol, to get cake and gifts for the young girl.

The North Carolina National Guard met with the Scott family on October 14, where they held a party for her and sang happy birthday.
