State investigating claim of grade tampering in Chester County

The South Carolina Department of Education is investigating a claim regarding potential grade tampering in the Chester County school system, a department spokesperson confirmed to Fox 46 News. It was not immediately clear how many students or teachers were named in the allegation.

"We don't want anyone to jump to any conclusions at this point," spokesperson Dino Teppara said. "Any allegation made will be looked into, even ones that may appear to have no merit."

The Rock Hill Herald first reported the investigation Tuesday. Chester County school board chairwoman Denise Lawson told the newspaper she could not comment on the investigation. She added a school employee, who she did not identify, no longer works for the district after an incident last year. She did not describe the allegation surrounding that incident.
