Statesville man accused of sexually assaulting 14-year-old held on $2M bond

A Statesville man is being held on a $2 million bond after deputies say he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl between August 2017 and January of this year. 

James Dewitt Shoemaker, 34, of Statesville, is charged with three counts of felony statutory rape of a child less than 15 years of age by an adult and two counts of felony statutory sex offense with a child under 15 years of age. 

On Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018 a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff's Office pertaining to a sexual assault involving a 14-year-old girl. 

The teenager told deputies the attacks happened between August 2017 and January 2018 at various homes where Shoemaker lived during those time periods. 

Detectives were able to obtain multiple felony warrants on Shoemaker following a lengthy investigation. He was arrested on Wednesday, March 7 at his home without incident.
