A Statesville man has been arrested for making a threat against West Iredell Middle School, officials said.

Bernard Edward Miller, 44, of Statesville, was taken into custody on December 15 in connection to a threat made against the school on November 16, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say Miller called West Iredell Middle School and spoke to school staff regarding what he perceived as a bullying incident. Deputies say Miller mentioned bringing a gun to the school and "handling the problem himself."

Following an investigation, Miller was charged with communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property. His bond was set at $5,000.
