STATESVILLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A Statesville woman arrested for assault incurred more charges for assaulting a sheriff's deputy while in jail, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to a domestic violence call at 112 Starlight Rd. in eastern Iredell County. When they arrived at the scene, a woman, alter identified as 26-year-old Katie Elizabeth Drescher, was in the roadway saying she had been assaulted and requested to be taken to a hospital to be looked at.
Iredell County EMS took her to the hospital where sheriff's deputies interviewed about the incident.
She told deputies that her boyfriend had assaulted her and broken her arm, but after being examined, medical personnel found no injuries.
Deputies then interviewed a man at the home on Starlight Rd. about the incident while Drescher was still at the hospital and noted injuries consistent with the story he told.
After being released from the hospital, Drescher was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where she was charged with simple assault.
While in the booking area of the jail, Drescher became unruly and assaulted a deputy. Drescher was taken back before the magistrate and was given additional charges of assault on a government official and resist, obstruct and delay of an officer.
She is being held on a $12,000 secured bond.
