Struggle is Real: Homeless fight freezing temps

Freezing temperatures in Charlotte are pushing the group Mother's of Murdered Offspring to take on a different type of activism.

"It's frigidly cold out here," member Lisa Crawford said.

FOX 46 Charlotte observed Crawford and Mother's of Murdered Offspring handing out donuts and hot chocolate to homeless men and women on Monday afternoon.

This comes as temperatures are steadily below freezing -- a potential deadly situation for the homeless.

Lee Will was one of the men accepting hot chocolate.

"I'm homeless, I'm not diseased," Will said.

Will and others said this action might seem small, but it shows love.

"When I look at you and say, 'Hi,' don't turn around and not look at me -- like you're scared that you might catch homelessness," Will said.

The Urban Ministry Center, Charlotte Men's Shelter and Salvation Army all told FOX 46 Charlotte they will not be turning anyone away until the weather warms up.
