Student arrested for bringing gun to Hopewell High School in Huntersville

A student has been arrested for bringing a gun to Hopewell High School on Wednesday, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

According to Principal Tracey Pickard, school officials received a tip that there was a student on their campus with a weapon. Officers were notified and investigated the tip with school administration.

Officials said a student was searched without incident and a weapon was located.

The student has been charged by the Huntersville Police Department. According to Principal Pickard, the student is also receiving school consequences in accordance with the CMS Student Code of Conduct.

"I ask that every parent and guardian have a conversation with your student about the importance of making sure they never have a weapon at school. If a student is aware of a weapon on our campus or any school campus, I ask that they tell a school employee immediately so an investigation can be completed.  I appreciate your support of our school and our students," Pickard said in a statement released on Wedneday.
