Student arrested for making threats against UNCC

A student has been arrested for making threats against University of North Carolina - Charlotte, according to university officials.

The student, identified in a search warrant as Matt Saavedra, was arrested by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department on a felony charge of making a false report of mass violence on an educational property.

UNCC sent an alert out to to the campus community confirming that arrest was in connection to the threats of violence on the University's campus.

"We take this matter very seriously. There is nothing more important to UNC Charlotte than the safety and security of our students and employees," the university stated in the alert.

University officials say Saavedra remains prohibited from coming onto campus.
