A student at Rocky River High School was found with a gun on campus Friday, according to school officials.

Principal Erica Turner sent a letter to parents stating that they received a tip that there was a student on campus with a firearm.

"Law enforcement was immediately notified and investigated the tip with school administration.  A student was searched without incident, a firearm was found and is now in possession by law enforcement.  No threats were made," the letter said in part.

Rocky River High was placed on a modified lockdown as a precaution, officials said.

The name and age of the student were not released. It's unclear what charges, if any, the student will face.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools released a statement asking all parents to encourage students to share any potential threats with adults.

Last month the school district unveiled new plans to keep guns out of schools, including wand checks and random backpack searches. The changes were in response to a shooting at Butler High School, which resulted in the death 16-year-old Bobby McKeithen.

Since the shooting, there have been a number of incidents regarding guns being brought into Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools.
