UNION COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Union County deputies have made an arrest in the death of a Wingate man.
Ricky Darren Aldrige, 52, of Monroe, is facing a murder charge after deputies found 44-year-old Patrick Charles Mooney dead in his home on Trull-Hinson Road.
Deputies were called out about 9:21 p.m. Sunday to the home to check on Mooney. When authorities arrived, they said they found Mooney dead from apparent stab wounds. Deputies noted signs of a struggle in multiple locations in the home, and said that it was clear someone had broken in.
Investigators believe that Aldridge briefly visited Mooney's residence in the early morning hours of Saturday and returned later Saturday morning and attacked Mooney. It appears the attack was robbery motivated.
Aldriged is facing charges of first degree murder and a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
