Suspect identified in fatal east Charlotte hit-and-run

One person was killed following a hit-and-run crash in east Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. 

The incident happened at 10:42 p.m. Thursday, November 3 along the 1500 block of Eastway Drive at the intersection of Michigan Avenue.

A dark colored SUV was stopped on Michigan Avenue at Eastway Drive at the stop sign. The SUV was attempting a left turn onto Eastway Drive when the moped was heading north on Eastway Drive in the left lane The SUV turned directly into the path of the moped and the two collided in the intersection, according to police.

The SUV stopped, them immediately reversed back onto Michigan Avenue and left the scene. Medic and CFD responded to the crash scene.

The rider of the moped was identified as Nga Nguyen and was pronounced dead from the injuries sustained in the crash.

While investigating the suspect vehicle and driver were both found on the 600 block of Camrose Drive. Lecostia Patterson was screened for impairment and arrested for driving while impaired and taken to CMC to have blood drawn, according to police.

Patterson was taken to CMPD where he was interviewed and charged with felony death by motor vehicle and felony hit and run.
