CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Two suspects have been arrested in an armed robbery and one is still on-the-run, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police.
Daniel Swaringen, 24, and and Delvacchio Mills, 35, have been charged for their involvement in this case.
Around 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday officers were called to a home in the 7400 block of Leahurst Ct. where a 19-year-old said he was beaten with a gun and robbed when he stopped by a friend's house.
The man told officer that when he arrived at the house he saw a U-Haul truck in the driveway, and when he went inside the house, he found three men who were in the process of committing a burglary.
“This is a very peaceful neighborhood and I wouldn't expect anything like this to happen,” Elizabeth Gladkova said.
The suspects hit the 19-year-old with a gun and stole his 2011 BMW. Two of the suspects left in the victim’s BMW while the third suspect drove away in the U-Haul truck.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
“I went out to look out the front window, I saw four police cars an ambulance and a fire truck," said neighbor Lisa Nagel.
"It's very alarming why someone would do this to a young man, he just happens to walk into his house and to do something like this, it's awful,” another neighbor told FOX 46.
A CMPD officer found the victim’s BMW and tried to stop it on I-485. The suspects refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit began.
The pursuit only lasted a few minutes and ended when the suspects crashed as they exited off of I-485 onto Blair Rd. Both men in the car then fled.
The items stolen items from the Leahurst Ct. home were recovered.
One of the suspects who fled from the BMW was caught by a K-9. The second suspect in that car was not found. He was last believed to be in the area of the Rocky River High School.
"This neighborhood is a really nice neighborhood and since this happened, it's probably going to make this town seem less safe than it usually was," Gladkova said.
Around 1:50 a.m., the U-Haul truck used in this crime was seen traveling on West Blvd. at Donald Ross Rd. Officers followed the vehicle until they ended up on Independence Blvd. at Wallace Rd. where they tried to conduct a traffic stop.
The driver of the truck wouldn’t pull over, and a second vehicle pursuit began. During this pursuit, the suspect vehicle cut through a shopping center parking lot and hit a light pole, but no other vehicles were involved and no one was injured.
The chase ended at the Circle K located at 4921 E. Independence Blvd. where the suspect surrendered.
One suspect is still on the loose. Police only say that he is a black male.
