TARGETED: Gun store robberies "all-time high"

Thefts, burglaries and robberies are at an all-time high across North and South Carolina, according to the ATF.

"The Charlotte Field Division, we have the highest the country," ATF special agent Gerod King said. "This past calendar year, we've had approximately 900 firearms that have been taken in those acts...that's 900 guns most likely in the hands of criminals."

The Charlotte Field Division of the ATF covers all of both North and South Carolina.

"At this point in time we don't know what is fueling the trend we just know that he have to deal with it accordingly," King said.

The ATF is encouraging anyone with any information on unsolved cases to come forward by calling 1-800-ATF-GUNS.

It is also asking for gun shops to tighten up on security.

There are currently no security requirements for federal firearms dealers.
