Teen charged in crash that killed 16-year-old passenger in south Charlotte

CMPD has charged a 17-year-old with involuntary manslaughter after a fatal wreck that killed a 16-year-old boy.

Abigail McGaha was released from CMC Monday morning and taken to CMPD headquarters where she was interviewed and charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving, according to police

CMPD responded to a single vehicle crash in the 5000 block of Colony Road, near the intersection of Sharon View Road around 12:10 a.m. Sunday morning.

McGaha was speeding southbound in the 5000 block of Colony Road, according to police.

Police say she lost control of her car and drove off the right side of the road. She overcorrected back to the left and slid across the northbound lanes of Colony Road. She went off the left side of the road and hit a tree.

McGaha and the front passenger were taken to CMC by Medic.

The rear passenger, Alexander Mundt was pronounced dead on scene.

Police say speed is a factor in the crash. The crash is under investigation.
