Tennessee officer shot serving warrant, suspect found dead

A Nashville area police officer was shot Tuesday morning and the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Metro Nashville Police.

FOX affiliate WZTV is reported it happened at about 5:20am ET while the officer was trying to serve a warrant at the Cumberland Inn motel.

The Officer, Terrance McBride, was shot in the shoulder and taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center. The reporter at the scene says the injuries were not life-threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Police believe the suspect is a parolee based out of NY and involved in other criminal activity in Nashville.

Officers said when they got to the inn they went into a room where a woman answered. They said there was evidence of drug activity and noticed a bathroom door was closed and locked.

Officers said they ordered the door to be unlocked and that's when the shooter opened the bathroom door and opened fire, hitting Officer McBride. Shots were exchanged, and the suspect went back into the bathroom.

The woman who opened the door ran off, but was arrested later, according to officers. SWAT officers were able to get into the bathroom and found the suspect in the bathtub with a deadly gunshot-wound to the head.
