Tornado touches down in Monroe

A tornado touched down in Monroe just before 5 p.m. Trees and some buildings are damaged in the area.

Peggy Davis lives in the area where the tornado touched down. She says the storm was so loud, she thought the roof was torn off.

The National Weather Service didn't issue a warning ahead of the tornado, which formed quickly in Union County. FOX 46 Chief Meteorologist Brian Basham says the tornado disbanded shortly after it formed.
