Transgender woman attacked at Charlotte park facing child sexual assault charges

A transgender woman who says she was brutally attacked with a hatchet last week is now charged with child sexual assault and second degree forcible fondling of a 15-year-old, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

New information in the case has led to the arrest of the transgender woman, Derrick Horton, according to police. Police said she is currently being held in a Cincinnati jail.

The reported crime by Horton, 24, happened at Clanton Park in west Charlotte. Three teenagers including a 15-year-old were arrested and charged.

On Monday, November 7, officers were called out to the park in reference to an assault with a deadly weapon.

When officers arrived they found Horton, who told police that several suspects committed an armed robbery against her through the use of a hatchet.

The suspects stabbed and cut Horton several times with the hatchet causing non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Police were able to identify the suspects as Dajon Tanner, Destiny Dagraca and a 15-year-old male. Tanner and Dagraca were both charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted murder, kidnapping and felony conspiracy. The 15-year-old was charged with attempted murder.

Police said additional evidence and an interview with Horton who was staying with relatives in Ohio showed that Horton made them believe that this assault was not a random act of violence. Detectives also determined that Horton and the 15-year-old engaged in a sex act prior to the assault.

Horton was arrested and served the warrants Thursday night in Cincinnati. Horton's return through the extradition process is currently underway, according to police.

Anyone with information concerning these cases or the suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. The FBI is working with CMPD.

A news conference will be held at 1:30 p.m. with an update on this case.

FOX 46 Charlotte spoke with Horton earlier in the week - and said she is calling it a hate crime and recovering in Ohio from her injuries.
