Troopers: Dallas police officer killed in rollover wreck

A police officer was killed in a rollover wreck Thursday morning in Dallas, North Carolina, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol. 

The deadly single-vehicle crash happened at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 along Dallas-Bessemer City Highway. 

The officer has been identified as 46-year-old Cpl. Travis Wells. He served with the Dallas Police Department for 22 years. He was operating a marked patrol vehicle when the crash occurred. 

The road was blocked off at the intersection of Dallas-Bessemer City Highway and Quail Drive.  

NC Highway Patrol said the cause of the wreck remains under investigation. They said Cpl. Wells died due to injuries he sustained in the collision. 

The Dallas Police Department is a small, tight-knit group with 13 officers serving in the department.
