Two girls bitten by dog in north Charlotte

Two girls were bitten and attacked by a dog in north Charlotte Saturday morning.

"The dog jumped on her first and then I tried to kick it off of her and then it bit me on the leg," said 14-year-old Shakimia Ivey.

Shakimia was bitten once on her leg  and her 4-year-old sister Stephanie was bitten three times. Both were taken to the hospital and released.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers responded to assist Medic & CMPD Animal Control in the 1500 block of Norris Ave. shortly before 11 a.m.

"It could've been worse. It wasn't that bad, but I saw blood so that's what caught my eye," said mother, Teresa Covington.

Animal control told the family the pitbull that attacked the girls was caught and they were still searching for another.

Covington wants answers, she's upset with how the girls regular trip to the store nearly turned tragic.

"We've been in this neighborhood for years and they walk to the store all the time, which they should be able to walk to the store without being attacked," said Covington.

"I am just trying to figure out why this dog was out like that with no leash. I just want to know who the owners are," she said.
