Two prison staff members stabbed by inmates at Lanesboro Correctional Institution

Two prison staff members, a lieutenant and a sergeant, were stabbed by inmates at Lanesboro Correctional Institution. 

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Thursday, September 29. Authorities said both the lieutenant and sergeant remain hospitalized for observation, but are expected to recover.  

Two other correctional officers were injured after being attacked with a broom handle. They were treated by prison medical staff and taken to a local hospital. They have since been released. 

The close custody (high security) portion of the prison remains on lock-down. The medium and minimum custody units are operating normally.  

The Polkton Police Department requested the State Bureau of Investigation’s assistance in this case.

Three inmates believed to be involved in the assault have been identified and were questioned.
