CONCORD, NC (FOX 46) - Two teens have been taken into custody, accused in the death of 90-year-old Gilma Goodman.
Anthony Cooper and Isaiah Powell are facing several charges including first-degree murder.
Concord Police said the two tried to rob Goodman's home and it was during that attempted robbery that Goodman was shot and killed.
Neighbors said Goodman may have opened the door to her killers.
Carolyne Oliver went to check on Gilma, her neighbor, Wednesday night and found her dead on the floor just inside the back door of her house.
“Who could do something like this? I don’t want to meet who could do this because I don’t want to see anybody that mean,” Oliver said.
Neighbors said Gilma was shot, but police aren’t saying how she was killed or if it was random.
Neighbors said they aren’t aware of anything being taken from inside the home and Carolyne said when she went to check on Gilma, she didn’t notice any signs that someone had tried to break in.
“It doesn’t make any sense, it doesn’t make any sense at all. I just hope they find them because if they’re that mean, they’ll do it again.”
FOX 46 Charlotte was told investigators took the inside door and the storm door as evidence. The area where Gilma was found dead is now boarded up.
“We just still are in a daze, we didn’t sleep hardly any last night because all I could see is her.”
Carolyne is trying to remember how Gilma lived and not how she died.
“She was a perfect woman, I think, she liked to do for people, she couldn’t do enough for the church.”
And while Carolyne has hope that Gilma is in a better place, she’s worried about her own neighborhood because Gilma’s killer hasn’t been caught.
