YORK COUNTY, S.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - One person is dead following a wreck Tuesday morning near York. A school bus was damaged following the collision, but investigators say it was not involved in the crash.
The victim has been identified as John Okain, 45, according to the York County Coroner's Office.
First responders were called to the scene at 1910 Charlotte Hwy near Branch Road around 6:30 a.m. Okain was driving a car that was struck head-on by a passing vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The school bus sustained damage after the other cars involved crashed, Tim Cooper, a spokesman for the school district in York, told FOX 46.
Two employees were on board the school bus-- a bus driver and a bus monitor. No students were on board, and the two employees are OK.
A second person in another car was airlifted by helicopter to a local hospital Domenic Manera, York Fire Dept. chief, confirmed.
No other information has been released at this time.
