Wanted: 2 suspects fire shots at Hamlet officer during traffic stop

The Hamlet Police Department has identified two suspects who they believe shot at a police officer during a routine traffic stop on Thursday night. 

The incident happened on McDonald Avenue around 10 p.m. Thursday, March 14. Hamlet Police said an officer pulled over a vehicle and discovered that the driver was operating the car with a suspended license.

The driver and passenger got out of the car and started walking towards the officer. The Hamlet officer then drew his weapon and told them to put their hands up. 

According to Hamlet Police, the two suspects, identified as Quintin Lamar Colloway and Winfred Thomas Dawkins, starting running. After about a 20 foot chase, the officer said one of the suspects fired one shot in the direction of the officer. 

Warrants have been filed for attempted murder and resisting arrest. Hamlet Police said these two men are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call 910-582-2551.
