Wanted suspect in custody after hours-long standoff in northwest Charlotte

A wanted suspect is now in custody following a three-hour long standoff Thursday in northwest Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. 

Police have identified the man as Michael Mahol, 28.

The standoff began around 8:00 a.m. Thursday, March 29 at a residence located along the 200 block of Jones Street, police said. Officers

CMPD officers were attempting to take Mahol into custody for a March 20 car theft that occurred in the 2300 block of Tipton Dr. when he refused to come out of the home. They believe Mahol was armed during the incident. 

VCAT arrived on scene and attempted to persuade the man to come outside, who was also in the home with another woman. 

Around 11:00 a.m. the man finally surrendered to authorities.  

Mahol has been arrested 11 times since 2015 and has multiple motor vehicle theft charges, possession of marijuana, identity theft and fraud nad robbery with a dangerous weapon.
