CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A deputy fatally shot a man after a brief altercation ensued on Sunday in Watauga County, according to authorities.
Officials responding to reports of a suspicious person on the property of a residence attempting to gain entry. The deputy arrived shortly after and located the suspect about a mile away walking on the side of the road.
He stepped out of his vehicle to speak with the suspect and was then attacked, police say. A violent struggle followed and the deputy fatally shot the suspect.
Per protocol the officer has been placed on administrative leave.
