Wintry weather prompts school closures in the mountains

Wintry weather prompted multiple school districts in North Carolina to close Wednesday morning. 

Watauga County Schools announced they will be closed today for students but it is an optional teacher workday. School officials said there will be no Saturday school planned at this point. 

They said their snow day program will open Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. 

Avery County Schools also announced that they will be closed today. It will be an optional teacher workday.
