Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested a woman accused of abducting a 10-month-old baby from her mother.

Sharlornia Matai Reid was arrested Tuesday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, abduction of children and misdemeanor larceny.

22-year-old Reid asked to hold the young daughter of Keiry Matute while in front of Matute's Charlotte house on Saturday. Matute says Reid distracted her and then took off running with the baby and drove off.

Matute told Fox 46 News Reid may have followed her home from Babies 'R' Us.

Reid was arrested a few hours later in Charlotte on an unrelated larceny charge from Buncombe County. The baby was returned to her mother unharmed.

Authorities said they planned to charge Reid with child abduction and assault with a deadly weapon when she got out of the hospital. It is unclear why Reid was hospitalized.

Reid has been placed under a secured bond of $15,000.

It was not immediately clear if Reid has an attorney.
