Woman charged with threatening to bomb middle school in Alexander County

A woman has been charged with threatening to bomb East Alexander Middle School, according to the Alexander County Sheriff's Office.

On Monday, March 12, investigators received a report in reference to threats made about placing bombs at East Alexander Middle School. Barbara Elizabeth Sherrill, 29, told others that law enforcement "better hope they find them before they go off."

School was dismissed Monday at 9 a.m. due to wintry weather and a search of the school turned up no explosive devices.

Sherrill was arrested without incident at her home in Lenoir. She is charged with one count of felony false report of mass violence on education property. Bond has been set at $20,000.
