Woman killed in I-85 wreck in Belmont

Belmont Police is investigating a fatal accident that happened Monday night.

30-year-old Caryl Michelle Allen died when the car she was driving was rear ended in the right lane approaching Exit 27 on I-85 South.

The wreck happened on I-85 South between Exit 27 and the Catawba River Bridge. Police say when officers arrived they found two vehicles sitting 500 feet from the I-85 South Exit 27 ramp.

Authorities say the wreck happened after the car driven by Allen slowed down on the ramp and another car hit it from behind.

Officials say they're still investigating and it's too early to determine if charged will be filed.

Allen's passenger and the driver of the second car were also injured in the crash.
