Wounded Warrior Project hosts Soldier Ride event

The Wounded Warrior Project is hosting the Soldier Ride event in Charlotte, giving local veterans a three-day cycling opportunity.

The injured veterans got fitted for special bikes at the Hyatt House on South Tryon. There were traditional, adaptive and hand pedal bikes.

This is the third year Soldier Ride is coming to the Carolinas. The Wounded Warrior Project says it provides a chance for veterans to overcome physical, mental and emotional wounds.

For some veterans, this is the first time since leaving the military that they're getting physically active.

The focus is to help them stretch their physical and mental capabilities, something that can be a challenge for those who served.

On Friday, the veterans will bike for 17 miles through Latta Plantation. On Saturday, they will ride for 14 miles at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
