ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Deputies said they have made another arrest in connection to a drug deal gone wrong that resulted in the death of a Davidson, NC woman in Rowan County.
Joshua Wade Kennedy, 33, was charged with murder and attempted robbery in the shooting death of 25-year-old Lakyn Jade Bailey.
Kennedy is a registered sex offender in West Virginia that had been living in Iredell County and Rowan County, according to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office.
He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under no bond.
West Virginia authorities have been contacted about Kennedy's residence status.
The shooting happened on Apple Road, near Burmac Circle, early Sunday morning, according to the sheriff's office.
On the morning of the murder, deputies said Bailey and a friend, 41-year-old Jason Donald Cranfill, of Statesville, traveled from Statesville to Rowan County for a meth deal that resulted in Bailey being shot by Kennedy. Cranfill then drove Bailey to the Country Cupboard store.
Bailey was pronounced dead inside the car. Cranfill was charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance, deputies said.
