York County Sheriff's Office investigating string of armed robberies

The Waffle House on Regent Parkway is the third business hit in a string of armed robberies within a week in York County.

Investigators are trying to figure out if it's related to two other recent armed robberies.

"The three were sitting and pretending to eat and order food," said York County Spokesman Trent Faris. "And while the cook was preparing their food, they got up and robbed the place."

It's not the first time a York County business has been targeted in the past week. In fact, Waffle House is the third business to fall victim to this type of violent crime.

"In each case, the suspects who entered the businesses were armed with handguns," Faris said.

The first armed robbery took place Friday at the Catawba Express off S.C. 5. The second took place Tuesday at the Kangaroo Express on US 21 in broad daylight.

"Customers were coming in and out of the building," Faris said. It's just down the road from the Waffle House. "The cases are in the hands of the detectives," said Faris. "And they're looking into it to see if any of them are related."

Nearby businesses are on high alert.

"Just kind of being watchful," said Jason Baker, who works nearby. "Being attentive. I think the most concern is it's close to home. You know the people-- they may be customers here."

York County authorities are hoping to get these suspects off the streets and behind bars. "These individuals are dangerous," said Faris. "We'd like to see them locked up as soon as possible."
