Protesters threaten to shut down Sunday's Panthers game

Local community members are focusing on security at Sunday's Carolina Panthers game. At a news conference Friday they asked for 100 men to come help keep calm outside the stadium.

The Panthers game starts at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.

Fears that this Sunday's game will be shut down continue to swirl. FOX 46 Charlotte was in uptown during Thursday night's demonstration and protesters did warn they would try to shut the game down.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney said he wants to assure all Panther fans that the game will go on as planned.

"We have adequate resources to ensure the safety of the city we are in good shape. We're not going to change the staffing model...we're going to make sure we're ready and we strongly encourage the NFL to allow our Panthers to be victorious on Sunday," Chief Putney said.
