FOX 46 Charlotte

Folks can expect heavy rain through the entire FOX 46 viewing area overnight into Thursday morning following a freezing rain event early Wednesday.

Accumulations of just over a trace were spotted along and northwest of the I-85 corridor. Residents were asked to use extra caution especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses through the 9 a.m. hour.

For that reason, Iredell-Statesville schools, Mooresville Graded School District and Rowan-Salisbury schools announced that they were operating on a two-hour delay Wednesday. Caldwell County schools, Alexander County schools and Newton-Conover schools operated on a three-hour delay.

Heavy rain will move through the area overnight and into the predawn hours of Thursday. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected with locally 3 inches falling in some spots.

The heart of the Thursday morning commute will be damp but the heaviest of the rain will be gone. Skies will clear Thursday afternoon and the rest of the forecast period looks sunny and quiet.
