Coldest air of the season settles in metro Charlotte

The coldest air of the season has moved in creating bone-chilling conditions and slick roads in parts of the FOX 46 viewing area early this week. 

Neighbors will be dealing with another bitter cold night Monday after a chilly end to the weekend, and will wake up to temperatures in the teens Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be clear and cold with some cloud cover.

Gusts in the mountains could make for subzero wind chill values in Avery, Ashe and Watauga counties. The cold wind chills could cause hypothermia to set in if precautions are not taken.


Tonight: Freezing cold night, potential for icing in areas where water is pooled. Low: 18° 

Tuesday: Cold, clear day with temperatures dropping well below freezing. Low: 18° High: 44°

Wednesday: Chance for rain and icing early in the morning, warming up as the day goes on. Low:  51° High: 54°
