Trees toppled, flash floods follow severe storms in Charlotte

Severe weather ripped through many neighborhoods across the greater Charlotte area Monday evening.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was in effect for most of the FOX 46 viewing area until 10 p.m. Monday.

Several car accidents and downed trees were reported. As of 10:56 p.m. Duke Energy power outages were below 1,000 in the Charlotte Mecklenburg region.

Showers and storms moved across the mountains and foothills. Some of the storms had damaging wind gusts greater than 30 mph.

The straight line winds brought down trees and power lines. The strongest storms occurred between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Isolated flooding was a problem too. Most of the FOX 46 viewing area saw between 1-2”.

We are not out of the woods just yet. Slightly less severe storms with rain are expected on Tuesday.
